HICA Boosts Bowling Club’s Funds

Residents at the Holderness Grange Retirement Village who have formed their own bowling club have received a £200 boost to club funds.

Residents at the Holderness Grange Retirement Village who have formed their own bowling club have received a £200 boost to club funds.

The money for the Hedon-based club has been donated by HICA – the developers of Holderness Grange – and is to help residents buy new equipment as they take part in their first season of league competition.

The bowling club has proved to be so successful that a third of the 65 residents at Holderness Grange have become members – even though most of them had never previously taken part in the sport.

Bowling Club Secretary Cy Smith said: “There were only five residents who had bowled before, and they taught the rest of us how to play. We are in a unique position at Holderness Grange because we have our own bowling green right on our doorstep. When you take into account the Village’s excellent lounge, restaurant and other amenities, we believe we have the best post-match facilities of any bowling club in the region.”

“We have a large terrace area next to the bowling green, so our matches are also enjoyed by non-playing residents and visitors,” she added.

The Holderness Grange team plays twice a week – in the Driffield Veterans League and the Thursday Hull and District League – as well as taking part in cup competitions.
